PROJECT HAMLET

American Laboratory Theatre, in association with the Eureka Institute, celebrated 400 glorious years of Shakespeare during International Theatre School 2016. Participants engaged in deep explorations of the human emotions surrounding the topics of love, death and betrayal. The culmination of this research and work was presented on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 7:30pm at Embody Center for the Healing Arts in Sandpoint, Idaho.

"Why do we sacrifice so much energy to our art?

To free ourselves from the breaks which hold us back, from the lies about ourselves which we manufacture daily for ourselves and for others; in short, to fill the emptiness in us."

-Jerzy Grotowski

Powerful and intense, International Theatre School is a very personal journey where culturally diverse directors, Jesús Quintero and Ivan Lopez used theatre as a means to break down barriers which surround us as humans, to free ourselves from the lies and walls we create about ourselves for personal and social acceptance. And to destroy the limitations caused by our own ignorance and lack of courage.

Concentrated studies in physical movement and conditioning, meditation, voice, song, and partnership exercises helped participants discover the essence of their being, along with their working tools. The ultimate goal is for each to use these working tools to create a new path and evolve a new way of living that creates beauty in the world around them.

The presentation of Project Hamlet at Embody Center for the Healing Arts in Sandpoint, Idaho, showcased the work and research of our week-long journey of personal discovery in the mountains of Sagle, Idaho at the Eureka Center.

Special thanks to the Eureka Institute, a local non-profit community organization whose mission encompasses life-long learning and leadership through education, experiential and recreational activities, and to Embody Center for the Healing Arts for their in-kind support of American Laboratory Theatre’s International Theatre School.
