ALT Artistic Director Jesús Quintero travels to South America as a guest professor for exchange workshops at three of Bogotá, Colombia's finest dramatic universities during 2016 and 2017. Quintero will continue a tradition of collaboration with Professor José Domingo Garzón of National Pedagogical University, and with International Director Alejandra Guarin of Teatro Libre/Central University, as well as Politécnico Grancolombiano University to further explore theatre studies research.

Participants in these universities will be focused in explorations of artistic transcendence, theatre anthropology, and theatre and art for social change. Concentrated studies in physical movement and conditioning, meditation, voice, song, and partnership exercises helped participants discover the essence of their being, along with their “working tools,” which include imagination, feelings, memories, and sensory skills. Directors will also lead the group in a research and discussion about the reality of theatre in the millennium.

Theatre research is vital to building a passive courage to reveal oneself as an artist, to reveal and purify those acts of creation while transcending oneself. Art is a ripening, an evolution, an uplifting which enables the artist to emerge from darkness into a blaze of light.

American Laboratory Theatre is commited to continuing its research through international exchange workshops that strengthen the craft by bringing together fellow artists to blaze new trails, to innovate, to sow, ripen and reap new ideas, to breathe and experience new energy and spirit that educates, inspires and entertains.
